Bismillah al rahman al rahim

سَأَلَ سَآئِلٌۢ بِعَذَابٍۢ وَاقِعٍۢ Arabic A man [mockingly] demanded the punishment. English - Abdel Haleem

لِّلْكَٰفِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٌۭ Arabic It will fall on the disbelievers––none can deflect it–– English - Abdel Haleem

مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِى ٱلْمَعَارِجِ Arabic From God, the Lord of the Ways of Ascent, English - Abdel Haleem

تَعْرُجُ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِى يَوْمٍۢ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُۥ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍۢ Arabic By which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him, on a Day whose length is fifty thousand years. English - Abdel Haleem

فَٱصْبِرْ صَبْرًۭا جَمِيلًا Arabic So be patient, [Prophet], as befits you. English - Abdel Haleem

إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُۥ بَعِيدًۭا Arabic The disbelievers think it is distant, English - Abdel Haleem

وَنَرَىٰهُ قَرِيبًۭا Arabic But We know it to be close. English - Abdel Haleem

يَوْمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ كَٱلْمُهْلِ Arabic On a Day when the heavens will be like molten brass English - Abdel Haleem

وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ Arabic And the mountains like tufts of wool, English - Abdel Haleem

وَلَا يَسْـَٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًۭا Arabic When no friend will ask about his friend, English - Abdel Haleem

يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ ٱلْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِى مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍۭ بِبَنِيهِ Arabic Even when they are within sight of one another. The guilty person will wish he could save himself from the suffering of that Day by sacrificing his sons, English - Abdel Haleem

وَصَٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَأَخِيهِ Arabic His spouse, his brother, English - Abdel Haleem

وَفَصِيلَتِهِ ٱلَّتِى تُـْٔوِيهِ Arabic The kinsfolk who gave him shelter, English - Abdel Haleem

وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًۭا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ Arabic And everyone on earth, if it could save him. English - Abdel Haleem

كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ Arabic But no! There is a raging flame English - Abdel Haleem

نَزَّاعَةًۭ لِّلشَّوَىٰ Arabic That strips away the skin, English - Abdel Haleem

تَدْعُوا۟ مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ Arabic And it will claim everyone who rejects the truth, turns away, English - Abdel Haleem

وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰٓ Arabic Amasses wealth and hoards it. English - Abdel Haleem

إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا Arabic Man was truly created anxious: English - Abdel Haleem

إِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ جَزُوعًۭا Arabic He is fretful when misfortune touches him, English - Abdel Haleem

وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا Arabic But tight-fisted when good fortune comes his way. English - Abdel Haleem

إِلَّا ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ Arabic Not so those who pray English - Abdel Haleem

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَآئِمُونَ Arabic And are constant in their prayers; English - Abdel Haleem

وَٱلَّذِينَ فِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ حَقٌّۭ مَّعْلُومٌۭ Arabic Who give a due share of their wealth English - Abdel Haleem

لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ Arabic To beggars and the deprived; English - Abdel Haleem

وَٱلَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ Arabic Who believe in the Day of Judgement English - Abdel Haleem

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ Arabic And fear the punishment of their Lord–– English - Abdel Haleem

إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍۢ Arabic None may feel wholly secure from it–– English - Abdel Haleem

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَٰفِظُونَ Arabic Who guard their chastity English - Abdel Haleem

إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَٰنُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ Arabic From all but their spouses or their slave-girls––there is no blame attached to [relations with] these, English - Abdel Haleem

فَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْعَادُونَ Arabic But those whose desires exceed this limit are truly transgressors–– English - Abdel Haleem

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَٰنَٰتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَٰعُونَ Arabic Who are faithful to their trusts and their pledges; English - Abdel Haleem

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَٰدَٰتِهِمْ قَآئِمُونَ Arabic Who give honest testimony English - Abdel Haleem

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ Arabic And are steadfast in their prayers. English - Abdel Haleem

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ فِى جَنَّٰتٍۢ مُّكْرَمُونَ Arabic They will be honoured in Gardens of bliss. English - Abdel Haleem

فَمَالِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ Arabic What is wrong with the disbelievers? Why do they rush to peer at you [Prophet], English - Abdel Haleem

عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ Arabic From right and left, in crowds? English - Abdel Haleem

أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍۢ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍۢ Arabic Does every one of them expect to enter a Garden of bliss? English - Abdel Haleem

كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَٰهُم مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ Arabic No! We created them from the substance they know, English - Abdel Haleem

فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ ٱلْمَشَٰرِقِ وَٱلْمَغَٰرِبِ إِنَّا لَقَٰدِرُونَ Arabic And, by the Lord of every sunrise and sunset, We have the power English - Abdel Haleem

عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًۭا مِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ Arabic To substitute for them others better than they are– nothing can prevent Us from doing this. English - Abdel Haleem

فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا۟ وَيَلْعَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يُلَٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ Arabic So leave them to wallow in idle talk, until they come face to face with their promised Day, English - Abdel Haleem

يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًۭا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍۢ يُوفِضُونَ Arabic The Day they will rush out of their graves as if rallying to a flag, English - Abdel Haleem

خَٰشِعَةً أَبْصَٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌۭ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلَّذِى كَانُوا۟ يُوعَدُونَ Arabic Eyes downcast and covered in shame: that is the Day of which they were warned. English - Abdel Haleem
